Senator Binani Dumps ADC for NDC

Former Adamawa governorship candidate, Aishatu Dahiru Binani, has left the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Binani formally joined the NDC during an event held in Abuja on Friday, where she was presented with her membership card. She was received by the party’s national leader, Seriake Dickson, along with other party officials.

Explaining her decision, Binani said she studied the NDC constitution carefully and found that it reflects a strong commitment to structured and policy-driven governance. She also addressed concerns about her frequent party changes, noting that politics is dynamic and decisions are often influenced by prevailing realities.

Her move comes about nine months after she left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the ADC.

Dickson described Binani’s defection as a sign of confidence in the NDC’s vision for a “new Nigeria,” adding that the party is focused on ideology, service, inclusion, and national development. He also called on women and young people across the country to join the party and take part in leadership and nation-building.

He further said the party has given Binani a leadership role in Adamawa State, where she is expected to work with stakeholders to strengthen unity and promote inclusive politics.

Binani, who previously represented Adamawa Central in the Senate, contested the 2023 governorship election under the APC but lost to Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The election attracted national attention after the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu-Yunusa Ari, prematurely declared her the winner during the collation process. However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) later nullified the declaration and suspended the official.

Binani’s latest political move is seen as part of early realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
