US pounds Iran after deadly attack kills two American troops
The United States launched new airstrikes on Iran on Sunday, saying the attacks were meant to punish Iran after two American troops were killed in Jordan.
Iran quickly responded by saying it attacked two US military bases in Kuwait. It said the strikes were in retaliation for more than a week of US attacks, which it claims hit an airport, a railway station and bridges.

The fighting has continued after efforts to end the conflict failed. The two sides are also locked in a dispute over the Strait of Hormuz, an important shipping route for the world’s oil.
Iran’s military said it used drones to attack Camp Udairi and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, targeting an ammunition depot and air defence systems.
Kuwait later said it was responding to another wave of Iranian drone and missile attacks, while air raid sirens were also heard in Bahrain.
Iran also carried out fresh attacks in Jordan, where the US military said two American service members were killed on Friday while defending against Iranian missile and drone attacks. Another US soldier is still missing.
The latest deaths bring the number of confirmed US military personnel killed since the conflict began on February 28 to 16.
The US military said it carried out an eighth straight night of airstrikes, targeting Iranian forces it blamed for the attack that killed the two American troops in Jordan.
Iranian media also reported that US forces attacked the southern port city of Sirik, near the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, warned that the country would teach the United States an “unforgettable lesson” if the attacks continued.
Senior military adviser Mohsen Rezaei also warned that Iran would launch larger military operations if the US kept attacking in the coming days.
Iran says at least 50 people have been killed and more than 500 injured since the latest fighting began.
The conflict has also affected civilians. Iran said US strikes damaged power facilities and water desalination plants in southern villages, cutting off drinking water supplies.
Despite mediation efforts, there is currently no sign that both sides are ready to return to peace talks.
