Reynolds, McElhenney target Premier League with Wrexham

Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have repeated their ambition to lead Wrexham to the Premier League after the club’s remarkable rise through the English football divisions.

Wrexham begin their 2026/27 Championship season away to Cardiff on Monday.

The club narrowly missed the play-offs last season after finishing seventh. They were sixth going into the final day but dropped out after drawing 2–2 with Middlesbrough, allowing Hull City to take the final play-off spot. Hull later won promotion to the Premier League.

McElhenney, who co-owns the club with Reynolds, said Wrexham’s goal was to win the Championship and reach the Premier League.

“We want to win the Championship, go to the Premier League, become the best,” he said.

However, he stressed that winning was not the only goal, saying the club also wanted its players and staff to become the best versions of themselves.

Reynolds said he was extremely proud of Wrexham’s progress since he and McElhenney took over the club five years ago.

Their ownership has attracted worldwide attention through the Welcome to Wrexham documentary series, which has also highlighted the local community.

Wrexham were playing in the fifth tier as recently as 2023 but have since risen to the Championship, leaving the club one promotion away from the Premier League.
