Atiku congratulates Adeleke, says Osun result is sign of 2027

Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, saying the result is a sign of what could happen in the 2027 general elections.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki also congratulated Adeleke and praised Osun voters for coming out to vote.

In a statement by his media office, Atiku said the result reflected the wishes of the people of Osun State.

He praised voters for resisting what he described as attempts to undermine the election and urged Nigerians to follow their example in 2027.

Atiku said the election showed that voters could protect their votes against rigging, vote buying and other forms of electoral malpractice.

He also criticised the heavy presence of security personnel during the election, saying it was meant to intimidate voters.

“Nigerians have roundly rejected the APC. The election in Osun State is just a telling indication that the APC will be defeated in the general election in January 2027,” he said.

The PDP faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, also described Adeleke’s victory as a message ahead of the 2027 elections.

He alleged that the APC used intimidation and other tactics in an attempt to win the election.

The faction also accused security agencies of bias and criticised the freezing of the state government’s accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as well as the delay in uploading polling unit results to INEC’s platform.

It urged Nigerians to remain vigilant ahead of the 2027 elections and ensure they vote, protect and defend their votes.
