Trump promises $5,000 to every American adult if Republicans win
US President Donald Trump has promised to give every American adult $5,000 if his Republican Party keeps control of both houses of Congress in the November midterm elections.
Trump made the promise on Wednesday during the Republican Party’s first-ever midterm convention in Dallas, Texas.

He called the proposed payment a “Trump dividend” and said the money would have to be spent in the United States. However, he did not explain how the payments would be funded or how the plan would be implemented.
The proposal could cost about $1.35 trillion if every American adult receives the full $5,000. It would also require approval from Congress, while questions have been raised about whether the plan is legally and financially possible.
Vice President JD Vance later suggested that wealthy Americans might not qualify for the payment. He also suggested that revenue from tariffs could be used to fund the plan, although analysts say tariff revenue would not be enough to cover the full cost.
Trump used his nearly two-hour speech to urge Republicans to vote for his party’s candidates and prevent Democrats from regaining control of Congress.
He warned that allowing Democrats to take control would harm the country and put the future of younger Americans at risk.
Trump also defended his administration’s policies and said keeping Republicans in control would allow his government to continue what he described as efforts to make America stronger.
The promise comes as Republicans prepare for a difficult midterm election, with Trump’s approval ratings under pressure and voters increasingly concerned about the cost of living and the war involving Iran.
