SILENT HEROES INITIATIVE HAILS IGP DISU’S TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP
PRESS RELEASE
Abuja, Nigeria — The Silent Heroes Awards Initiative (SHA) has commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his transformational leadership, professional approach to policing and commitment to strengthening public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The Founder of SHA, Comrade Odita Sunday, said Disu’s leadership reflected the importance of purposeful command, institutional reforms and people-oriented policing in addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
Odita said the IGP’s approach to leadership underscored the need for a police force that was not only operationally effective but also accountable, responsive and committed to protecting the rights and safety of citizens.
According to him, effective police leadership requires a clear vision, discipline, professionalism and the ability to inspire officers to deliver on their constitutional responsibilities.
“Leadership in the security sector goes beyond occupying an office or issuing directives. It is about setting standards, inspiring personnel, strengthening institutions and building public trust through professional conduct and measurable results.
“We recognise the importance of leadership that places service, accountability and the safety of citizens at the centre of policing. The office of the Inspector-General of Police carries enormous responsibility, and the expectations of Nigerians are equally high,” he said.
The SHA founder noted that public trust remained a critical component of effective policing, adding that sustained engagement between the police and the communities they serve was essential to preventing crime and improving security outcomes.
He stressed that modern policing required a combination of intelligence gathering, operational efficiency, respect for human rights and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
Odita also emphasised the importance of personnel welfare, continuous professional training and improved operational capacity in motivating police officers to discharge their duties effectively.
He said officers who operated under demanding and often dangerous conditions deserved institutional support, professional recognition and leadership that encouraged integrity and excellence.
“The men and women who serve in the security sector make enormous sacrifices, often away from the public spotlight. Recognising their service and encouraging exemplary leadership are important steps towards building stronger and more responsive institutions,” he said.
The SHA founder explained that the Silent Heroes Awards Initiative was committed to recognising individuals whose leadership, service and contributions made meaningful differences in society, particularly in areas of security, governance, community development and national advancement.
He added that the initiative believed that celebrating excellence could encourage responsible leadership, promote professionalism and inspire others to contribute to national development.
According to him, recognition should go beyond titles and positions to focus on character, commitment to duty, institutional impact and service to humanity.
Odita urged Nigerians to support efforts aimed at strengthening the country’s security institutions, noting that security was a shared responsibility requiring cooperation among government agencies, communities, civil society and the private sector.
He expressed optimism that sustained reforms, professional leadership and stronger partnerships between the police and citizens would contribute to improved public safety and confidence in law enforcement.
The SHA founder reiterated the initiative’s commitment to promoting excellence, integrity and service, while encouraging public officers to remain focused on their responsibilities to the Nigerian people.
He said the ultimate measure of leadership in the security sector was its positive impact on the lives of citizens, the effectiveness of institutions and the confidence of the public in those entrusted with their protection.
