Tinubu Sends State Police Bill to Senate
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent a bill to the Senate seeking the creation of state police across Nigeria.
The bill, which was read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday, proposes changes to the 1999 Constitution to provide a legal framework for states to establish and operate their own police services.

According to Tinubu, the proposed law is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security system and helping states play a bigger role in tackling insecurity.
The President said the bill builds on earlier efforts by the National Assembly and includes measures to ensure that a federal and state policing system can work effectively together.
He urged the Senate to consider and pass the bill quickly, describing it as an important part of his administration’s security reforms.
After the letter was read, the Senate referred the bill to its Committee on Constitution Review for further consideration.
The move comes amid growing calls for state police as a way to address security challenges such as terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other crimes across the country.
