The Federal Government has approved higher allowances and better welfare benefits for civil servants in Nigeria.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, announced this during a press briefing on Friday in Abuja.

She said the new changes are meant to increase the take-home pay of workers and improve their motivation.
The increase will affect workers under the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS) and the Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS).
According to her, the new allowances will cover all grade levels, so both junior and senior workers will earn more.
She also said the government has reviewed important allowances such as duty tour allowance (DTA), estacode, and book allowance. Almost all allowances listed in the Public Service Rules have now been updated.
One major change is that civil servants attending approved training programmes will now receive 100 percent DTA, even if the training takes place in the same city where they work.
For example, if a worker in Abuja attends training in Abuja, they will still receive full DTA.
The government has also introduced an exit benefit scheme for retiring civil servants under the Contributory Pension Scheme.
From January 1, 2026, retirees will receive 100 percent of their full salary as an exit package in addition to their pension.
Walson-Jack said this is to help workers retire with dignity and proper financial support.
She also announced that the Employee Compensation Scheme is now working to support workers who suffer job-related injuries or die while working.
She explained that these reforms came after labour unions asked the government to improve workers’ welfare because of the rising cost of living.
About two years ago, the Federal Government had already approved a salary increase of between 25 percent and 35 percent for civil servants under different salary structures.
