Speaking at the event, the NUJ-FCT Council Chairman, Grace Ike, said the initiative was designed to mentor young people on how the media operates while revitalising press clubs in schools across the FCT.
She commended all participating schools for their performance and urged teachers to sustain press club activities in their institutions.
“Teachers, please organise your press clubs and, once in a while, host events and invite the NUJ-FCT Council; we will come,” she said.
Ms. Ike added that the programme would promote media literacy, mentorship, and civic engagement among students, while also empowering young people through educational initiatives.
Earlier, the Coordinator of Press Clubs and Vice Chairman of NUJ-FCT, Yahaya Ndambabo, said the programme reflects the council’s commitment to fostering journalism, media literacy, and responsible communication among students.
He noted that press clubs help students develop critical thinking, leadership skills, confidence, and interest in journalism and public affairs.
Representatives of the Secondary Education Board, alongside several teachers, attended the event.

Students who spoke after the competition described it as a groundbreaking initiative and the first of its kind.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards and cash prizes to winners by the NUJ-FCT Council Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike.
