Spain replace Argentina as world’s top-ranked team
Spain have returned to the top of the FIFA world rankings after winning the 2026 World Cup.
The new rankings, released on Monday, show Spain replacing Argentina as the world’s number one team.
Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final on Sunday to win their second world title.

France remain third in the rankings despite losing 6-4 to England in the third-place match. England stay fourth.
Brazil moved up one place to fifth, while Morocco also climbed one spot to sixth.
Portugal dropped two places to seventh after being knocked out by Spain in the Round of 16.
Belgium rose to eighth, moving ahead of the Netherlands, who slipped to ninth.
World Cup co-hosts Mexico climbed four places to 10th, returning to the top 10 for the first time since March 2022.
Germany dropped two places to 12th after being eliminated by Paraguay.
Switzerland were among the biggest movers, rising five places to 14th after reaching the quarter-finals.
Norway made the biggest jump, moving up 12 places to 19th after also reaching the last eight.
