Russia fired more than 40 missiles in attack on Kyiv
Russia fired more than 40 missiles, including 25 ballistic missiles, at Ukraine’s capital Kyiv overnight on Sunday, killing one person and injuring 16 others, Ukrainian officials said.
President Volodymyr Zelensky described it as one of the biggest ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv since the war began.
Residents said explosions continued throughout the night, while buildings, supermarkets and an entertainment centre were damaged in six districts of the city.

“The missiles just kept coming one after another,” Kyiv resident Ganna Zagorodnia said. “I thought my life was about to end.”
Russia said it targeted military facilities, logistics centres in Kyiv and port infrastructure in the southern city of Odesa. Moscow denies deliberately attacking civilians.
Zelensky again appealed for more air defence systems, saying Ukraine urgently needs interceptor missiles for its US-made Patriot systems to defend against ballistic missile attacks.
Ukraine has been facing shortages of Patriot missiles in recent weeks, allowing Russia to step up its missile attacks on Kyiv.
The latest attack came as thousands of Ukrainians continued protests against President Zelensky’s decision to remove Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov in a recent cabinet reshuffle.
Meanwhile, Ukraine also carried out attacks inside Russia.
Russian officials said a Ukrainian strike killed one person in the Kursk region near the border.
A Ukrainian drone attack also damaged two oil tankers at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium terminal near Novorossiysk on the Black Sea, forcing the suspension of oil loading operations.
On Saturday, Ukrainian drones reportedly destroyed two large warehouses in the Moscow and Tambov regions, killing eight workers and causing major fires.
The United Nations says June was the deadliest month for civilians in Ukraine since April 2022, with at least 293 people killed.
Peace talks remain stalled, while fighting continues on both sides.
