Akpabio Criticizes Peter Obi for Leaving the Party That Gave Him 6 Million Votes

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has criticized former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

He said Obi is wrong to leave the party that helped him get over six million votes in the 2023 election.

Akpabio spoke on Tuesday at an event. He said some politicians use a party to get votes and then abandon it. He said this hurts political parties and makes the system unstable.

He did not mention Obi by name. But he said, “Somebody will go and get up to six million votes through a political party and yet abandon that party and the six million votes.”

He added that such a person then starts looking for a new party to build from scratch. He also said he was not talking about Professor Charles Soludo, the governor of Anambra State. But he said he was talking about someone around Soludo’s area.

Peter Obi is from Anambra State. He ran for president in 2023 under the Labour Party and got more than six million votes. Now he is trying to get the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Akpabio’s comments were widely seen as a direct attack on Peter Obi.
