Niger authorities have remanded in custody an activist who criticised the military regime, media reported on Thursday.
Nassirou Bodo “was placed under a remand warrant… at Niamey prison after being brought before prosecutors”, the online outlet Air Info said.

Private daily L’Enqueteur reported that the activist was being prosecuted for “spreading information likely to disturb public order”.
Kaka Touda, a civil society figure, confirmed Bodo’s incarceration on Facebook, without indicating the reasons.
In a Facebook post this week, Bodo called on Nigeriens to engage in actions of “protest and disapproval of the social violence that the state exerts on the population”.
He cited the “unjust eviction” of residents from land around Niamey airport.
Authorities said they were protecting the capital from terrorism after the airport area was targeted in an attack claimed by jihadists in January.
Since a military takeover in July 2023, numerous journalists and civil society actors in Niger have been arrested, jailed and in some cases convicted on security charges.
