Grace Ike Wins Silent Hero in Management Award, Reaffirms Commitment to Ethical Journalism

Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has expressed gratitude after receiving the 2026 Silent Hero in Management Award at the 8th Silent Heroes Awards in Abuja.

Speaking after receiving the award, Ike described the recognition as both an honour and a motivation to continue serving the journalism profession with integrity and dedication.

“I receive this Silent Hero in Management Award with profound gratitude, deep humility and a strong sense of responsibility. I sincerely thank the organisers for finding me worthy of this recognition,” she said.

She said the award was not just for her but for journalists, media professionals and union members who work tirelessly to promote responsible journalism.

Ike noted that the achievements of the NUJ FCT Council were made possible through teamwork and the support of members, executive officers, chapel leaders, senior journalists and other partners.

She reaffirmed her commitment to improving journalists’ welfare, promoting professional training, encouraging ethical journalism and strengthening unity within the union.

“As journalists, we remain custodians of truth, defenders of democracy and advocates for accountability. Our profession must continue to be guided by ethics, professionalism, fairness and the public interest,” she said.

The NUJ FCT chairman dedicated the award to journalists across Nigeria who continue to perform their duties despite many challenges. She also thanked her family, mentors, colleagues and everyone who has supported her leadership journey.

She commended the organisers of the Silent Heroes Awards for recognising individuals whose contributions often go unnoticed, describing the initiative as an important platform for celebrating selfless service and outstanding leadership.
