Alonso tells Chelsea to learn from Arsenal defeat

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has urged his players to learn from their painful 2-1 defeat to Arsenal and use it to improve as the season progresses.

Chelsea made a strong start at the Emirates Stadium, with Morgan Rogers scoring after just 77 seconds. Arsenal fought back through Kai Havertz before Martin Ødegaard scored the winner after the break.

The defeat was Alonso’s first since taking charge of Chelsea in the summer. The Blues had won their opening two Premier League games against Fulham and Brighton and also beat Luton in the League Cup.

Alonso admitted the defeat was painful but said Chelsea must use it as part of their learning process.

“It hurts because a defeat has to hurt,” he said. “This is a process. It’s still early days for us.”

The Spaniard also admitted Chelsea need to improve defensively after conceding seven goals in their first three league matches.

“We want to start having clean sheets. They will come,” Alonso said.

Despite the loss, he praised his players for their effort and fighting spirit and said the team remained on the right track.

Chelsea will now look to respond in their next match as Alonso continues to build his team.
