Ukraine’s defence minister resigns in government reshuffle

Ukraine’s Defence Minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, resigned on Wednesday as part of a major government reshuffle ordered by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Fedorov announced his resignation on Telegram, saying it had been a great honour to serve the country. He highlighted achievements such as increasing drone production and use, and introducing reforms in the military.

His resignation comes a day after parliament approved the resignation of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, who had been in office for one year.

Fedorov became Ukraine’s youngest defence minister when he was appointed in January at the age of 35.

He played a key role in expanding the use of drones in the war with Russia and helped secure Starlink satellite internet services for Ukrainian troops.

Local media reports say Interior Minister Igor Klymenko is expected to replace him.
