Trump says Iran wants deal to end war

US President Donald Trump has said Iran wants to reach a deal to end the ongoing conflict between the two countries.

Trump made the statement during a campaign rally in Gastonia, North Carolina, where he said he hoped the war was nearing an end.

“I hope we’re close to the end of the war. They want to make a deal, but we’ll see how it goes,” Trump said.

He has repeatedly said Iran wants an agreement, although talks between Washington and Tehran in recent months have failed to produce a lasting deal to end the conflict.

The two countries have continued to exchange attacks since an earlier ceasefire agreement broke down.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the conflict involving Iran have also put pressure on fuel and energy prices, becoming a major concern for US voters ahead of the November midterm elections. (cbsnews.com)

The developments come as political parties in the United States prepare for the November midterm elections, in which all seats in the House of Representatives and some Senate seats will be contested.

Trump has previously said the United States is willing to negotiate with Iran, while Iranian officials have said Tehran has conditions that must be met before it enters talks.
