The Philanthropic Achievements of Her Excellency Nkechi Rochas Okorocha

In a world where philanthropy often shines as a beacon of hope, Her Excellency Nkechi Rochas Okorocha stands out as a remarkable figure. Her journey is a testament to the power of compassion and the impact of dedicated service. In an enlightening conversation, she shares the story of her philanthropic journey, the inception of the Women of Divine Destiny Initiative (WODDI), and her unwavering commitment to empowering women and addressing gender inequality.

A Passion for Women’s Empowerment

Nkechi Okorocha’s philanthropic journey began long before WODDI was established. The Rochas Foundation, a family initiative, laid the groundwork by providing educational opportunities to underprivileged children. However, Okorocha’s vision extended beyond education. With a profound passion for women’s empowerment, she felt compelled to create an organization that specifically addressed the needs and challenges faced by women.

WODDI, the Women of Divine Destiny Initiative, was born nearly two decades ago. “As a family, we have Rochas Foundation, but I needed to have my own foundation because of my passion for women,” Okorocha explains. “I believe that once a woman gets it right, the family, the community, and the world at large will get it right.”

Her motivation was rooted in her own experiences and observations. She recognized that many women faced significant challenges in their homes and communities, challenges that could be mitigated with the right support and information. WODDI’s mission became clear: to enlighten and empower women, enabling them to discover their true potential and effectively manage their lives.

Addressing Gender Inequality with Wisdom and Approach

Gender inequality remains a pervasive issue worldwide. Okorocha approaches this topic with sensitivity and a strategic mindset. “When you talk about gender equality, it’s important to promote it,” she notes. “I believe that when a woman understands who she is and how to approach issues with wisdom, the impact of inequality diminishes.”

WODDI addresses gender inequality by educating women about their rights and providing them with the tools to assert those rights effectively. “It’s about wisdom and approach,” she emphasizes. “When you know how to approach things, the issue of inequality becomes less significant.”

Collaborative Efforts: Partnerships for Greater Impact

Collaboration has been a cornerstone of WODDI’s success. Okorocha highlights the importance of partnerships in achieving meaningful change. “I’m passionate about the total well-being of women,” she says. “In Imo State, we were able to build and furnish 205 bungalows for orphans. We have various programs that address mental health, empowerment, and education.”

WODDI has formed alliances with notable organizations such as the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and UNICEF. These collaborations have amplified WODDI’s efforts in areas like female genital mutilation and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). “We’ve partnered with UNFPA, UNICEF, and many other foundations and NGOs,” Okorocha explains. “These collaborations are crucial for achieving our goals.”

Empowering Women to Lead

WODDI’s programs are designed to nurture leadership skills among women, encouraging them to take on roles as community leaders. Through initiatives like the Harmony Hub, WODDI Women Talk Show, and various publications, the organization provides women with the knowledge and confidence to lead.

“We have publications like ‘Woman the Home Builder’ and ‘Hunger to Succeed’ that aim to reach a larger audience,” Okorocha shares. “Our empowerment programs, skill acquisition initiatives, and support for needy women help them take on leadership roles in their communities.”

Fostering Unity and Peace in Nigeria

Amidst Nigeria’s challenges, Okorocha advocates for unity and peace as essential elements for progress. Drawing from her experiences growing up in Jos, she reminisces about a time when communities were closely knit, and people shared love and resources freely. “What happened? What went wrong? Let us embrace one another,” she urges. “We must preach love, forgiveness, and unity of purpose.”

Okorocha believes that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity and potential for greatness. “Nigeria is a beautiful country. We have what it takes. We are not called Big Brother Africa for nothing,” she affirms. “We must embrace love, unity, and a collective effort to build a better future.”

A Life Guided by Compassion

Reflecting on her personal journey, Okorocha emphasizes the importance of living a life centered on compassion and service. “Be intentional. Nothing is worth taking your joy. Be contented and live a people-centered life,” she advises. “In living for others, you will be living for yourself.”

Her philanthropic efforts have not only transformed the lives of countless individuals but have also set a powerful example for others. “When you cultivate in others’ farmland, God is cultivating in yours,” she says, underscoring the reciprocal nature of compassion.

Hope and Determination

As Nigeria navigates its challenges, Okorocha remains hopeful and determined. “I have hope that we as a people, as a nation, and as a country will get it right,” she declares. “All it takes is God, love, forgiveness, and unity of purpose.”

In a world that often seems divided, Her Excellency Nkechi Rochas Okorocha’s message of compassion, unity, and empowerment shines brightly. Through WODDI and her unwavering dedication, she continues to defend the defenseless and inspire positive change across Nigeria.
