How a Company Linked to Former Anambra Housing Boss Ibezi Ifeanyichukwu Anthony Secured Government Contracts Worth Millions

Last updated on May 31st, 2026 at 07:13 am

Fresh findings have brought renewed scrutiny to the activities of Ibezi Ifeanyichukwu Anthony, a former public office holder in Anambra State, following the emergence of records linking a company in which he held a directorship position to government contracts awarded during his time in public service.

Documents reviewed by investigators indicate that Anthony, who served as Chairman of the Anambra State Housing Development Corporation, was a director of Beez Real Estate Limited, a company that received government payments amounting to N19,913,975.64.

The development has raised concerns about possible conflicts of interest and compliance with provisions of Nigeria’s Code of Conduct framework governing the conduct of public officials.

The Code of Conduct Bureau was established to promote accountability, transparency and ethical conduct in public service.

Under the law, full-time public officers are restricted from engaging in the management or operation of private businesses, except those involved in agriculture.

The objective is to prevent public officials from using their positions for personal financial gain.

Despite these restrictions, corporate records identify Anthony as one of the directors of Beez Real Estate Limited during the period the company received federal government payments.

Payment records show that on 15 July 2021, the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing made two separate payments to the company.

The first payment, valued at N9,077,344.57, was for the final phase of a project involving the installation of integrated 3-in-1 solar street lights in Zango/Baure Federal Constituency in Katsina State.

On the same day, the ministry also paid N10,836,631.07 to the company as final payment for the supply of electricity infrastructure and the installation of 500KVA transformers in Akaajime, Gboko and other locations in Benue State.

Corporate registration documents show that Beez Real Estate Limited was incorporated on 21 December 2007.

The company’s registered address is listed as 12 Abdul Kadir Baba Agba Street, Works and Housing Area, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.

However, the current operational status of the company could not be independently verified.

Investigators noted that Anthony’s name appears among the company’s directors at the time the payments were made.

Anthony also has a political background. In June 2019, he was inaugurated as the member representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

His stay in the National Assembly, however, was short-lived after the Court of Appeal in Enugu nullified his election, ending his tenure after approximately six months.

The findings have renewed discussions about the need for stricter enforcement of conflict-of-interest regulations and greater transparency in public procurement processes.
