Troops neutralise 1,106 Boko Haram, ISWAP terrorists

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have neutralised 1,106 Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists and arrested 758 logistics collaborators supporting the insurgent groups in the North-East.

The outgoing Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, disclosed this during his farewell address at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, Borno State.

He said the troops also intercepted more than N300 million in illicit funds allegedly linked to financiers of the terrorist groups.

According to him, the troops recovered more than 475 assorted weapons and 24,409 rounds of ammunition of various calibres during the operations.

He added that 295 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were discovered and safely detonated.

Abubakar attributed the operational successes to a combination of sustained military pressure and robust non-kinetic engagements.

He said the approach triggered an unprecedented wave of surrenders, with more than 969 JAS/ISWAP fighters and their family members laying down their arms within the past year.

The outgoing commander also said the theatre recorded major successes in rescue operations, with 638 civilians rescued from terrorist enclaves.

He added that all 46 students were safely rescued during an attempted abduction at the Federal Government Girls College, Monguno.

Abubakar said several notable insurgent leaders were also neutralised during the operations.

They included Abu Bilal Al-Muniki, also known as Abu Mainok; Malam Jidda, Amir of Ngorgore and Malumti villages; Abu Modu; Modu Dogo; Munzir of Dogon Chukun; Abu Aisha, Qaid of Tumbun Mota; and Abul Kaka.

He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve the country, as well as the Borno State Government for its support.
