The Presidency has rejected claims by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that he is being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over financial dealings involving Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
In a statement on Friday, Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga described Atiku’s accusations as false and based on social media gossip.

The statement said President Bola Tinubu is focused on national development and has no interest in political distractions.
“Atiku’s claims are baseless. It is disappointing that a politician of his stature relies on unfounded social media reports to stay relevant,” Onanuga said.
He added that Atiku has been making desperate attempts to remain in the political spotlight since losing the 2023 presidential election.
EFCC Operates Independently
The Presidency also stressed that the EFCC is an independent institution and does not take orders from the government.
“Atiku should focus on contributing positively to national progress instead of spreading falsehoods,” the statement concluded.
