The Nigeria Police Force has rescued 21 kidnapped victims and recovered ₦4.8 million suspected to be ransom money in a series of operations across the country.
Police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi stated that officers in Taraba State rescued 20 people from kidnappers on March 29 along the Takum/Mararaba road after a gunfight with the criminals.
Two victims sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.
In Kano, police arrested five suspects linked to the kidnapping of Dr. Muhammad Bello Yushau on March 8. The suspects include Tukur Lawal (Maikudi), Ado Usman, Sanusi Surajo, Habiba Shuaibu, and Ummulkhairi Ibrahim.
Security operatives also recovered a locally made firearm and ₦4.84 million suspected to be ransom money. Dr. Yushau was rescued unharmed.
In a separate operation, police in Taraba State arrested a suspect, Kafinta Musa, over allegations of armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal possession of firearms.
An AK-49 rifle was recovered from him, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the officers for their efforts and urged the public to continue providing intelligence that can aid in the fight against crime.
