Over 33 Million Nigerians Face Severe Hunger – Akpabio
Senate President Godswill Akpabio says more than 33 million Nigerians are suffering from serious food shortages, calling for urgent government action.
Speaking at the Senate’s first meeting after its annual break, Akpabio expressed sympathy for people affected by floods in Bayelsa, Sokoto, Zamfara, and other states.

He said insecurity, high living costs, and power problems continue to make life hard for Nigerians. “Hunger cannot be defeated with words. It requires strong policies, budgets, and action,” he said.
Akpabio urged lawmakers to focus on improving agriculture, roads, irrigation, and mechanization to fight food insecurity. He also called for reforms to boost the economy, improve education and healthcare, and give young people better opportunities.
He added that the Senate would review the 1999 Constitution to strengthen democracy and governance in Nigeria.
