Obi Picks Kwankwaso as Running Mate

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has named Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

Obi announced the decision on Saturday while delivering his acceptance speech after being confirmed as the NDC’s presidential candidate at a special convention in Abuja.

The former Anambra State governor emerged as the party’s sole presidential aspirant during the primary election held on May 29, 2026.

His nomination was formally endorsed at the convention after a motion moved by Victor Umeh and seconded by Ovie Omo-Agege.

Following the affirmation, the NDC National Leader, Seriake Dickson, and the party’s National Chairman, Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, presented the party’s flag to Obi.

More details are expected later.
