NUJ Urges Lawmakers to Use Technology for 2027 Election Results

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called on lawmakers to make clear rules for transmitting election results ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement signed by its National President, Alhassan Yahya, the NUJ warned that unclear rules on how results move from polling units could reduce public trust and increase political tension.

The Union urged lawmakers to introduce rules that ensure transparency and allow results to be checked and verified.

NUJ noted that citizens have long asked for reforms to make elections more open.

They said using technology to send results in real time from polling units to official platforms would reduce suspicion, prevent disputes after elections, and strengthen trust in institutions.

NUJ also called on all stakeholders to support technology-based systems that promote accountability, transparency, and public confidence.

They said following global best practices would improve Nigeria’s democracy and help ensure peaceful elections in 2027.
