NAWOJ Secures Land for National Secretariat

The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has acquired land to build its permanent National Secretariat, marking an important step in the association’s growth.

This was announced during a visit by NAWOJ leaders, led by its National Chairperson, Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim, to the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahaya.

Speaking during the visit, Aisha Ibrahim said NAWOJ has received the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for the land in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), after completing all necessary processes and documentation.

She explained that the association met all official requirements, including approvals from its National Executive Council (NEC), before moving ahead with the land acquisition.

According to her, NAWOJ overcame several administrative challenges to complete the process, spending about ₦1.59 million to secure the land documents.

She described the achievement as a major investment that will strengthen the association and improve the welfare of its members across the country. She also said plans are already in place to start building on the land soon.

Aisha Ibrahim thanked stakeholders and supporters, including the NUJ President, for their support, especially in helping NAWOJ maintain its current secretariat in the past.

In his response, NUJ President Alhassan Yahaya praised NAWOJ for the achievement, describing it as a lasting legacy. He assured the association of continued support and encouraged it to begin development on the land as soon as possible.

The visit also highlighted the strong working relationship between NAWOJ and NUJ, with both groups committed to promoting the welfare and development of journalists in Nigeria.
