Man United salvage Fulham draw as pressure mounts on Carrick

Manchester United rescued a 1-1 draw against Fulham on Sunday after Matheus Cunha scored a late equaliser, but the result increased the pressure on manager Michael Carrick.

United looked set for a third defeat in a week after defender Lisandro Martinez scored an own goal in the 63rd minute to give Fulham the lead at Craven Cottage.

Cunha then levelled in the 89th minute when his long-range shot took a deflection and beat Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

United had chances in the first half, with Bruno Fernandes hitting the woodwork, while Leno made several important saves to keep Fulham in the game.

However, United struggled to create clear chances after going behind and appeared close to suffering another disappointing defeat.

The draw gives United a point, but they have now won only one of their first five Premier League matches this season.

The result comes after United lost to Manchester City in the Premier League last weekend and then suffered a 3-2 defeat to Brighton in the League Cup during the week.

Carrick was already under pressure before the Fulham match following United’s poor start to the season. The latest result may ease that pressure slightly, but questions remain over the team’s form and performances.

Fulham, meanwhile, are still waiting for their first Premier League win under new manager Alvaro Arbeloa. They had looked on course for victory before Cunha’s late equaliser.
