Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has announced that anyone found guilty of kidnapping in the state will face the death penalty by hanging.
He made this statement during a meeting with Arewa community leaders in Uromi.

He said he would not hesitate to sign death warrants for convicted kidnappers.
The new law passed by the Edo State House of Assembly allows for the death sentence for kidnapping, and also permits the government to take over and destroy properties used for such crimes.
Governor Okpebholo said his government is serious about ending insecurity and will also recruit and pay local vigilante teams to support security efforts.
He warned people to be careful about strangers who claim to be from the North but cause trouble.
He called on everyone to work together with his administration to make the state safer.
