NUJ FCT Chair Grace Ike Hails Workers, Calls for Press Freedom and Better Work Conditions

As Nigerians celebrated International Workers’ Day, the Chairperson of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Grace Ike, praised all workers for their hard work.

She also called for better working conditions and more freedom for journalists.

In her Workers’ Day message, Grace Ike said many journalists are struggling because of the poor economy. She supported this year’s theme: “Reclaiming the Civic Space in the Midst of Economic Hardship.”

She said Workers’ Day is a time to recognize workers and also fight to protect freedoms like free speech and the right to speak up.

Ike pointed out that high living costs, job insecurity, and few job opportunities are making life harder for workers.

She warned that these problems are also threatening democracy.

“Now more than ever, journalists must speak the truth, hold leaders accountable, and protect the weak,” she said. “We must fight for press freedom and fair treatment at work.”

Ike urged both government and private employers to improve working conditions and support workers.

She said the current economic problems should not take away people’s rights.

She ended her message by asking everyone to work together to protect freedoms, support workers, and help Nigeria move forward.

Grace Ike is the first woman to lead the NUJ FCT Council.
