Governor Yusuf made this statement in Kano on Monday while receiving Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, who visited to offer condolences.
“We appreciate the steps taken so far, but justice must be ensured. It is not enough to say justice has been served; the people must see that justice is done. The people of Kano and Nigerians as a whole need to witness the perpetrators facing justice,” Governor Yusuf said.
He also commended Governor Okpebholo for engaging with the Hausa community leaders in Edo to prevent further conflict and for promising compensation to the victims’ families.
“The promised compensation is a good step, but it must be expedited to support the families who lost their breadwinners,” he added.
Governor Okpebholo, on his part, expressed deep concern over the killings and assured that those responsible would be brought to justice.
“The moment I received the report, I rushed to Uromi. I met with the Hausa community there, and we worked to calm tensions. I assure you that the perpetrators of this crime will be punished,” he stated.
The Kano State Government reiterated the need for justice to restore peace and prevent future occurrences of such conflicts.
