Kano Gov. Reshuffles Cabinet, Sacks SSG, CoS

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has undertaken a significant cabinet reshuffle, which has resulted in the dismissal of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the Chief of Staff (CoS), the Commissioner for Information, and four other commissioners.

In a statement released on Thursday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, described the development as a political realignment designed to enhance the administration’s performance and deliver more democratic dividends to the people of Kano State.

As part of the reshuffle, the SSG, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, was removed from office due to health reasons. Additionally, the office of the Chief of Staff, Alh. Shehu Wada Sagagi, was scrapped entirely.

Despite these changes, some members of the cabinet retained their positions. These include the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi; the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud; the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran; and the Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Hon. Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar.

Other retained officials include those overseeing Budget and Planning, Works and Housing, Solid and Mineral Resources, Religious Affairs, Youth and Sports, Investment and Commerce, and Internal Security.

Several cabinet members were reassigned to different roles within the administration. The Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulssalam, was moved from the Ministry of Local Government to the Ministry of Higher Education.

Similarly, Hon. Mohammad Tajo Usman was transferred from the Ministry of Science and Technology to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Other notable reassignments involved commissioners taking on new roles in ministries such as Education, Water Resources, Special Duties, Tourism, and Women Affairs.

However, five commissioners were dropped entirely from the cabinet. These include Ibrahim Jibril Fagge of the Ministry of Finance, Ladidi Ibrahim Garko of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Baba Halilu Dantiye of the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, Shehu Aliyu Yammedi of the Ministry of Special Duties, and Abbas Sani Abbas of the Ministry of Rural and Community Development.

Governor Yusuf has directed the former Chief of Staff and the five dismissed commissioners to report to his office for potential reassignment.

This major reshuffle reflects the governor’s strategic decision to improve the administration’s efficiency and align it with the expectations of Kano State’s residents.
