Robert Prevost Becomes First American Pope, Takes Name Pope Leo XIV

In a historic moment for the Catholic Church, Cardinal Robert Prevost has been elected the new Pope. He will now be known as Pope Leo the Fourteenth (Pope Leo XIV).

Prevost is the first American ever to become the head of the Catholic Church.

Before his election, he was in charge of the Vatican office responsible for choosing bishops around the world.
