The Federal Government of Nigeria has warned its citizens living in Iran and nearby Gulf countries to be careful because of rising military tensions in the region.
The warning comes after Israel and the United States carried out airstrikes in Iran, and Iran responded with attacks in some Gulf states.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA/PR/2026/21) in Abuja asked Nigerians abroad to stay alert and follow safety rules.
Key advice from the Ministry includes:
Stay alert: Avoid areas near military bases, government buildings, or other strategic locations that could be targeted.
Limit movement: Do not travel unless necessary, and avoid gatherings or public events until it is safe.
Follow local rules: Listen to instructions from local authorities to stay safe.
Stay informed: Get news from reliable local and international sources, and avoid rumors.
Keep in touch with embassies: The Nigerian Embassy in Tehran and missions in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE, and Saudi Arabia are ready to help Nigerians with consular support and communication.
The Ministry said the government is closely watching the situation and will update Nigerians as needed. It emphasized that protecting Nigerians abroad is a top priority.
The advisory also called on all parties involved in the conflict to be careful and seek dialogue, highlighting the importance of diplomacy for peace in the region.
