Tinubu reappoints Audi as NSCDC chief for another five years

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for another five-year term.

The announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a new five-year term. The reappointment took effect from Friday, February 27,” the statement said.

Audi first became NSCDC chief in 2021, appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His first term ended last Friday during the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.

“He will resume his duties on Monday with a renewed mandate,” the statement added.

President Tinubu also directed Audi to strengthen the service to play a bigger role in Nigeria’s security, especially as the police focus on protecting citizens from bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists.

Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa State, Audi studied locally and then attended Teachers’ College in Jengre, Plateau State, earning a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate in 1987.

He earned the Nigeria Certificate in Education from the College of Education, Akwanga in 1992, a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from Ahmadu Bello University in 1995, a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Calabar in 2001, a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University in 2014, and a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University in 2019.

Audi joined the NSCDC in November 1996 as a volunteer, became a Divisional Officer in Obi Local Government Area, Nasarawa State in 1997, and served in several state commands. In 2007, he was promoted to Commandant and posted to the Commandant-General’s office at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.
