Tinubu and I Are Parallel Lines That Will Never Meet – El-Rufai

Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, says he has never had a personal or close political relationship with President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on Trust TV, El-Rufai said many people wrongly believe they were friends or allies, but that was not true.

He explained that he supported Tinubu’s 2023 presidential bid because of party principles, not personal loyalty.

According to him, there was an agreement in the APC that power should return to the South after eight years of former President Muhammadu Buhari. When Tinubu became the party’s candidate, he worked hard to ensure the party won the election.

However, El-Rufai said they later discovered they had major differences in values and approach to governance. He said his focus in public service is performance and results, not personal gain.

He added that even if he had become a minister under Tinubu, he would likely have left because their beliefs and governing styles are too different.

“We are parallel lines that will never meet,” El-Rufai said, stressing that they are simply not aligned in principles or vision.
