SWS FCT Chapter Holds Walk to Mark International Women’s Day

The FCT Chapter of Standup for Women Society (SWS) celebrated International Women’s Day 2026 with a solidarity walk in Abuja. The event was held under the theme “Give to Gain.”

Speaking at the event, the Chairperson of the chapter, Mina Daniels, praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory for improving infrastructure in Abuja.

She said the new roads and other developments are noticeable and encouraged the minister to continue doing more for residents.

She also thanked members of the group for coming out in large numbers for the walk and praised the support of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for helping to make the event successful.

Daniels also informed members that preparations are ongoing for the organisation’s upcoming international conference and encouraged people to register early.

“We are happy to see many members come out today. It shows their strong commitment to supporting women and girls,” Daniels said.

The Secretary of the chapter, Princess Joy Idam, called on the Federal Government to provide free sanitary pads in schools across the country. She said this would help girls stay in school and improve their education.

“Providing sanitary pads in schools will help many girls continue their education without interruption,” Idam said.

She also asked the government to create more support programmes for widows and women, including small grants to help them take care of their families.

The Vice Chairperson of the FCT chapter, Lydia Samson, also called on men to stop bullying or harassing women in workplaces and urged society to treat women with respect and give them equal opportunities.

The event ended with calls for everyone to work together to support and empower women and girls.
