Presidential Ticket Is ADC’s Biggest Challenge – Obi’s Former Running Mate

Datti Baba-Ahmed, who was the Vice Presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, has shared his thoughts on the newly formed political coalition using the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform.

This new coalition includes important political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 LP Presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and other opposition leaders.

They officially launched their platform under the ADC on Wednesday.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Thursday, Baba-Ahmed said this move is similar to what President Bola Tinubu did before the 2015 elections when several parties came together to form the APC (All Progressives Congress).

However, he pointed out a key difference: in 2015, everyone already saw Muhammadu Buhari as the clear candidate from the beginning, and Tinubu supported him with the understanding that he would take over after Buhari. This made things more organized for the APC.

In contrast, Baba-Ahmed said the ADC coalition doesn’t have a clear candidate yet, and this could lead to serious competition and possible conflict during the primaries.

“There are disagreements in the current coalition. Back in 2015, Buhari was already seen as the chosen one. Tinubu helped him because he believed he would be president after him. But now, the opposition doesn’t have a chosen candidate. The race will be tight, and the primaries might not be smooth. The big question is, what happens after that?” he said.
