They said they joined the ADC to build a strong opposition that can challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Many top politicians attended the event, including South-East senators, former governors, and the ADC national chairman, David Mark.
Speaking at the gathering, Obi said the decision marked the start of a new effort to save Nigeria from bad governance.
He accused the APC government of weakening democracy and promised to work with others to restore good leadership and unity in the country.
