The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) says the defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to the APC is a betrayal of the party, its leader Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, and the people of Kano.
NNPP spokesperson, Ladipo Johnson, said the party was not strong in Kano before the 2023 election but won because of Kwankwaso’s influence and the support of the people.

He said voters stood firmly by Abba Kabir Yusuf up to the Supreme Court, so they should have been consulted before such a decision was taken.
Another party official, Ibrahim Karaye, said the NNPP is deeply disappointed by the development but remains strong in Kano and confident of continued public support.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf officially joined the APC along with 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly and nine members of the House of Representatives.
At the event marking his defection, Yusuf said he consulted widely before taking the step and described the move as being in the best interest of Kano State.
He added that joining the APC would allow him to work closely with the federal government to attract development projects and speed up progress in Kano.
