Multichoice Announces New Price Hike for DStv, GOtv Packages

Multichoice Nigeria has announced an impending increase in subscription rates for its DStv and GOtv packages, set to take effect on May 1, 2024.

This adjustment comes in response to escalating operational costs and economic challenges within the country.

In the revised pricing structure, the DStv Premium package will rise from N29,500 to N37,000, while the Compact Plus package will see an increase from N19,800 to N25,000.

Other packages, including Compact, Confam, Yanga, and Padi, will also experience significant price hikes.

GOtv subscribers are not exempt, with the Supa+ package increasing from N12,500 to N15,700, and the Max package from N5,700 to N7,200.

Multichoice has attributed these changes to the rising costs of business operations, including content acquisition, infrastructure maintenance, and other operational expenses.

The company acknowledged the potential impact on its customers, stating, “We understand the impact this change may have on you—our valued customer—but the rise in the cost of business operations has led us to make this difficult decision.”

The announcement has elicited mixed reactions from subscribers. Many have taken to social media platforms to express their dissatisfaction, citing the current economic hardships faced by Nigerians.

Some customers have called for regulatory intervention, while others are exploring alternative entertainment options.

This marks the third time Multichoice has increased its subscription rates within a year, with previous hikes implemented in April and November 2023.

The company maintains that these adjustments are necessary to continue providing quality content and services to its subscribers amidst the challenging economic landscape.
