A member of the House of Representatives representing Dala Federal Constituency in Kano State, Aliyu Sani Madakin Gini, has left the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Madakin Gini, who is the Deputy Minority Leader in the House, announced his decision in a letter dated March 10, 2026.

The letter was addressed to the chairman of the NNPP in Yalwa Ward of Dala Local Government Area in Kano State.
In the letter, the lawmaker said he decided to leave the party after consulting with his political allies and supporters across Kano State, especially in the 12 wards that make up Dala Federal Constituency.
He said the decision was not easy because of his long commitment to the party and the Kwankwasiyya political movement.
However, he explained that internal problems within the party pushed him to leave.
According to him, the party is now divided into two groups — one loyal to Boniface Aniebonam, and the other loyal to former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Madakin Gini said the existence of parallel leadership structures from the ward level to the national level influenced his decision to resign from the party.
“I wish to formally notify you that I have with immediate effect withdrawn my membership of the NNPP,” he wrote in the letter.
He added that he has now joined the APC together with many of his supporters across Kano State.
Before now, Madakin Gini had already distanced himself from the Kwankwasiyya movement and stopped wearing the red cap usually worn by supporters of the group.
