Iran says it will reopen the Strait of Hormuz after Trump agrees to stop fighting

Iran has agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz after a blockade that lasted more than one month.

The blockade made fuel prices very high all over the world.

Iran agreed to reopen under some conditions.

The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Iran is on one side, and the Musandam Peninsula is on the other.

It is about 167 kilometers long. It is very important because 20% of the world’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) and 25% of oil shipped by sea pass through it every year.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, helped both sides agree to a temporary peace deal.

Iran said that for two weeks, ships can pass through the Strait safely if they work with Iran’s military and follow technical rules.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, announced this after Trump accepted a two-week ceasefire.

Trump had set a deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait. He said if Iran did not, a whole civilization could be destroyed.

Iran’s Foreign Minister said his country will stop its defense operations if the United States and Israel stop attacking Iran.

He said, “If attacks against Iran stop, our military will stop its defense operations.”

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said the war is not over yet.

They said the war will only end if the US accepts Iran’s 10-point plan. They said the details must be agreed upon in talks.

Trump wrote on social media that he spoke with Pakistan’s Prime Minister and a top general.

They asked him to stop the attack he planned to send to Iran.

Trump agreed to stop bombing and attacking Iran for two weeks, as long as Iran fully, immediately, and safely opens the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump said this is a ceasefire for both sides. He said the US has already met all its military goals.

He said they are close to a long-term peace agreement with Iran and peace in the Middle East.

He said Iran’s 10-point plan is a good starting point for talks. He said most past problems have been solved, and two more weeks will help finish the agreement.

As of now, Israel has not commented on the deal.

Israel has been fighting alongside Iran since the war started on February 28.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister said the ceasefire starts immediately.

He said Iran and the US, together with their allies, have agreed to stop fighting everywhere, including in Lebanon.

Formal talks will begin on Friday, April 10, in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
