Gov. Yusuf Resigns from NNPP

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), citing internal crises and saying the decision is in the best interest of Kano people.

The resignation was announced on Friday in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to the statement, Yusuf submitted a resignation letter to the NNPP chairman of Diso-Chiranchi Ward in Gwale Local Government Area, effective January 25, 2026.

The governor thanked the party for giving him the platform and support since 2022 but said ongoing leadership disputes and court cases had weakened the party nationwide. He noted that the internal conflicts had divided members and reduced unity within the party.

Yusuf said he made the decision after careful consideration and without bitterness, stressing his continued commitment to peace, unity, and development in Kano State.

The statement added that 21 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, and 44 local government chairmen also resigned from the NNPP.

The NNPP secretary of Diso-Chiranchi Ward, Kabiru Zubairu, confirmed receipt of the resignation letter and praised the governor for his achievements in infrastructure, health, education, and economic empowerment.
