The General Officer Commanding 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Bemgha Koughna, has escaped an ambush by suspected members of the Lakurawa Terrorists Group near Mayama Hill in Kebbi State.
The incident occurred while the GOC, who also commands Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma, was on his way to visit troops on the frontline.

According to the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 8 Division, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, the convoy came under intense gunfire while moving through a forested area known for insurgent activity.
He said troops, led by the GOC, responded swiftly and repelled the attack, killing five suspected terrorists and securing the route.
Osoba added that a follow-up sweep of the area led to the recovery of weapons and other items, including an OJC gun, a PKT machine gun, two AK-47 rifles, magazines, ammunition, cash, mobile phones and motorcycles.
He noted that the successful counter-ambush disrupted the attackers’ plans and reaffirmed the military’s resolve to protect communities and maintain operational dominance in the North-West.
Troops, he said, will continue clearance operations in the area to prevent further attacks.
