FIFA has ended Super Eagles’ hopes of playing in the 2026 World Cup by confirming DR Congo as Africa’s representative for this month’s inter-confederation play-off tournament.
An accreditation notice sent to the media on Wednesday gave details of the tournament and the six countries involved.

Nigeria had challenged the result of their November 2025 CAF play-off defeat, claiming that DR Congo used ineligible players.
The match ended 1-1 and Nigeria lost on penalties.
With DR Congo’s place confirmed, Nigeria will not participate in the play-offs, leaving the Super Eagles’ World Cup dream for 2026 over.
