El-Rufai Sues ICPC, Demands N1bn Over Abuja Home Search

Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has filed a N1 billion suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), alleging that operatives unlawfully invaded and searched his residence in Abuja.

The fundamental rights enforcement suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/345/2026 and filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, is seeking to nullify a search warrant issued by an FCT magistrate court on February 4. The warrant had authorised the anti-corruption agency to search the property and seize relevant items.

Through his counsel, Oluwole Iyamu, El-Rufai is asking the court to declare the warrant invalid and set aside all actions taken pursuant to it, arguing that the operation violated due process and his constitutional rights.

The former governor has been in ICPC custody since February 18 over an ongoing investigation, the details of which have not been publicly disclosed.

His media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, earlier confirmed that the Aso Drive residence was searched by commission operatives, while a member of his legal team described the action as unlawful and a breach of legal procedures.
