The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Touray, made the announcement on Tuesday during the 55th meeting of the organisation’s mediation and security council, which took place at the ministerial level in Abuja.

The meeting was called because of the recent series of coups and attempted coups in several West African countries.
Touray said these incidents show the need for ECOWAS countries to think seriously about the future of democracy in the region and to invest more in security.
