Catholic Priest Shot by Gunmen on Dangerous Benue Road

A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Solomon Atongo, was shot by gunmen on Saturday evening along the Makurdi-Naka road in Benue State.

He was badly injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Fr. Atongo is the priest in charge of St. John’s Quasi Parish, Jimba.

The Catholic Diocese of Makurdi asked the public to pray for his quick recovery.

“I write on behalf of the Bishop to request your prayers for the quick recovery of Rev. Fr. Solomon Atongo, who was attacked and shot by suspected herdsmen,” said Shima Ukpanya, Chancellor of the Diocese.

Reports say Fr. Atongo was traveling with two other people when they were attacked.

After shooting him, the attackers took the others away to an unknown location.

The Makurdi-Naka road has become very dangerous over the years, with many cases of kidnappings and killings.
