BREAKING: Rivers Assembly Starts Impeachment Process Against Fubara Again

The Rivers State House of Assembly has started impeachment proceedings again against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The lawmakers began the process during their sitting on Thursday.

They accused Governor Fubara and his deputy of serious misconduct.

This is the second time in about 10 months that the Assembly has tried to impeach the governor.

During a similar attempt in 2025, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State.

In March, he suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all members of the State House of Assembly because of a long political crisis in the state.

Many analysts believe President Tinubu’s action stopped the impeachment at that time.

The crisis was linked to the conflict between Fubara and his former political mentor, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Fubara has since joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), while Wike remains in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

However, Wike is leading a broad political alliance in Rivers State to support Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
