Amasiri Communities Deny Allegations of Planned Attacks, Call for Investigation

Residents of Amasiri have strongly denied allegations that they are planning attacks against security personnel and neighbouring communities, describing the claims as false, malicious, and capable of escalating tensions.

In a press statement issued by the community leadership, the people of Amasiri rejected a publication attributed to Edda Media Practitioners, which allegedly accused them of plotting attacks against the Nigerian Army and their neighbouring Okporojo.

The statement said the allegations were “deliberately crafted to mislead the public, inflame tensions, and unjustly portray” the communities as violent, insisting that Amasiri has historically remained peaceful and law-abiding despite ongoing hardships.

According to the community, its people have neither planned nor contemplated any attack on security agencies or neighbouring settlements, stressing that peaceful coexistence and respect for human life remain core values.

The statement also highlighted the humanitarian situation facing residents, noting that many people are displaced and living in difficult conditions, including elderly citizens, pregnant women, and other vulnerable groups. It argued that it was illogical to suggest such a distressed population could be organising violence.

Community leaders further said security personnel deployed to the area were aware that residents had not resisted or confronted them. They called for a forensic investigation into an alleged voice note circulating online to determine its origin and whether it could have been artificially generated to incite conflict.

The statement, signed by Amadi Maduka, a former deputy president general of the Amasiri Town Union, urged the public to rely only on verified information from credible authorities and warned against spreading unverified materials that could heighten panic.

Reaffirming their position, the community said it remains committed to dialogue, peace, and lawful engagement, while calling on stakeholders to avoid inflammatory rhetoric and prioritise reconciliation.

“We stand firmly by the truth: Amasiri knows nothing about any plan to attack soldiers and will never be part of it,” the statement concluded.
